On the 22nd of October St. Aidan’s C.S.held a pizza party for the school website journalists to celebrate the opening of a new Press Room. There was a great atmosphere. Everyone wanted to get into the new room as soon as possible.
Mr Whyte and his 3rd year Metalwork Class made the tables which holds five laptops,at which the journalists can research and write articles. Mr. Conor Shortall designed and wired the room for power and internet. At 1:30, the Vice Principal, Ms Quigley, cut the ribbon to the room, officially opening the Press Room. Many pictures were taken and lots of smiles as everyone admired the huge amount of work that had been put into making the room a special place for the website journalists to work on their articles.
The purpose of this room is to have a space for the journalists alone to work. The press room acknowledges and supports the massive effort they make, in their own time, to keeping the school website up to date. The press room itself, and the website initiative, supports the school’s dedication to improving literacy levels across all year groups.
This room will make a huge difference to me personally. I want to be a journalist when I am older, and I believe, having this room, makes me really see what goes on when you are a journalist, how you can work and what kind of place you will work.
