On Wednesday, the 15th of May, Nikita Evans, Anna Sealemetse, Alessandra Diosanta, Shauna Byrne and Lauren Daly went on a trip with Ms.Flynn to ‘The Lion King’. The tickets for the show were a prize for winning the Spelling Bee and Response Booth Book Reviews which were part of the ‘Literacy Week’ at St. Aidan’s. . The musical was held in the Bord Gaís Theatre and ran for two and half hours. The students took a packed lunch to the theatre.
Everyone had a lot of fun and were very enthusiastic throughout the whole show. One student was so awed by the amount of detail that she cried because it reminded her so much of her own home in Lesotho, Africa. Another student was very concerned that the show was already finished at the intermission and wondered how the lion, Simba, grew up so fast in the second part of the show.
The designs of their costumes were very intricate and colorful and the musical really captures the essence of Africa and its culture. The vibe is very positive and it isn’t a surprise why it was automatically a big hit, because there are seriously talented performers and this makes it worth watching over and over again.
The Lion King Musical is a Broadway Show directed by Julie Taymor, with music mostly composed by Elton John. It is now Broadway’s fifth longest-show running in history. They had their debut in Minnesota and since then the musical has been a continued success.
