Open Day- Primary School Students Visit St. Aidan's

On Wednesday 14th November St. Aidan's held its annual Open Day. The Open Day gives 5th and 6th classes from St. Aidan's and St. Anne's primary schools an opportunity to explore the school and see if St. Aidan's C.S. the secondary school for them!

The primary school students started the day with fun, games and food with Mairead and Leanne and were then treated to a musical performance by Le Cheile. This was followed by a tour of the school as the St. Aidan's and St. Anne's students were guided around by our 5th and 6th year peer mentors. The primary pupils were shown all of our schools great facilities including the science labs, the language lab,the library, the PE hall, the computer rooms and the school canteen. Each subject area proudly displayed their work and a great number of our own students helped out by attending to the displays and chatting with the visiting schools.

In the library visiting sports reporter and author, Alan Combes, gave a very exciting talk to one of the primary school classes. He told many interesting tales of his days as a sports reporter for the Sunday Times newspaper in England. He gave us the inside scoop on getting interviews with Wayne Rooney (very difficult) and David Beckham (he interviewed him by post) and hearing Premiership secrets from the managers themselves.

In the afternoon parents were invited to the school to look around and talk to teachers if they wished and many parents availed of this opportunity. The day was a great success, thanks, in no small part to the fantastic organisational skills Leanne and Mairead and all the wonderful students who gave a hand on the day!
