We reached the Under-14 Dublin final after a series of great matches along the way. The final was held in Tallaght Stadium, the home of the mighty Shamrock Rovers. It was against The Grange Community College, Donughmede. Aidan’s were one nil up at first but were eventually beaten 3-1 by a physical strong Grange side.
Dean Kivlehan scored a wonder goal. It was a goal fit to grace any final. Outstanding performances on the day were put in by Darren Cosgrove, Matthew Rice and Kevin Simpson.
Overall the year was a great journey, unfortunately ending in defeat when we were going for back to back Dublin titles. A huge thank you to Mick Fitzsimons for all his work with the players.
There’s alway next year...... S O’Brien and K. Tunney.
Report on Racism
What is racism
People in society are all different. Some of us are small tall and our skin and hair colour very. We have different ideas as we do different things. Some people make judgments on how people look or behave without getting to know them this is called predjudice

Why people are racist
No one is born racist and it can come from any kind of background. There are many reasons why people might follow racist role models perhaps their parents or friends at school are predjudice. Some young people join gangs if most of the members are racist. Then the new member may have to adopt this attitude. The gangs may also blme others

People may believe in sterotypes andhold racist attitude but not an act upon them. Others take action on the street they might join racist organizations even if they are illegal for example in Russia many skinheads groups have sprung up. They have neo nazi views meaning that they follow Adolf Hitler racist nazi ideas were developed in the 1930s. the skinheads
Believe in a pure Russian and hate people from other countries and cultes

Neo nazi skinheads are usually secondary school students nocational students (learning a trade or skills) or young unemployed hoe do we become racist! Experts believe that the skinheads have grown because of the economic crisis in Russia and the upheaval in society after the collapse of the soviet union in the 1990sthe young neo Nazis blame immigrants for their difficulties in their society

What can we do
Some people racism directly they get picked on at school or in the streets. Others under attack as a group perhaps they hear something that is rude about them some see people acting in a racist way even though it is not directed at them
Sometimes you may need to get help from others talk to a friend, relatives teachers you can trust. There are websites and organization that can offer advice it helps to know your rights. Racism is against the law and racist can be punished even if they are children the website is child line
Studies have been shown that teenagers who binge drink are more likely to engage in other risky behaviors such as driving while intoxicated , using other drugs and committing crimes .
Accidents , sucide abd violence are some of the most common causes of death for people between the ages of 16 and 25 . Alcohol often plays a part in all three of these .

Effects Of Alcohol
When a person drinks alcohol , it is absorted into the bloodstream through the stomach and small intestines . Once in the Bloodstream , alcohol travels to the brain and other organs in the body . Alcohol effects the brain by causing it to release certain chemicals . These chemicals give the drinker a plesant feeling . Alcohol also weakens the brains ability to communicate with the body . Alcohol Effect on a person depends on several factors . People who drink on an empty stomach or who are not used to drinking will be feel the effects more than larger people . In addition , each persons body chemistry is unique , so each person will feel the effects of alcohol in a different way .
1.	Alcohol enters through the mouth .
2.	It goes to the stomach , some of it is absorted into the bloodstream .
3.	It goes through the small intestine and more is absorted into the bloodstream .
4.	Alcohol is carried in the bloodstream to every organ in the body .
Our film club excelled during the Dublin heat in the IFI cinema in Temple Bar we received the audience vote for “The Voice’ written by Aideen McDonald and we went through to the final in Limerick with both films ‘The Mirror Zone’ and ‘The voice’. ‘The Mirror Zone’ was written and starring Ross Ellis. His use of comedy throughout in dressing teachers in school uniforms really grabbed the audience’s attention for the duration of the film.

Our trip to Limerick started at 7.00am when we left the school. It took us about three hours to get to the cinema in Limerick City. On that morning our spirits were high although we were all extremely tired we began to feel anxious when we saw the size of the cinema complex our films would be screened in we felt proud of ourselves and our accomplishments because when we arrived we were no more than amateur film makers.

It was a very long tiring day we saw a lot of films that day having seen a lot of different types of films a lot of them were extremely enjoyable. The prize giving ceremony began at 6.30pm that night once all the films had been watched. All the prizes were given out by an animator from California; although we felt disappointment at not winning a prize we were very proud of our achievements and thankful to all who helped us along the way. A big thanks to Mr. Moran, Mr. B. Moran, Johnny and Mr. Quigley. Special thanks to Ms O’Brien who put in so much time and energy to make the film club so a brilliant thing to be part of in St Aidan’s.
.
Although we didn’t come away from Limerick with any physical prize we came away with something better we came away with being able to say “we can do anything we put our minds to”

By Rebekah Deal and Laura Finnegan
Drawing from our experience within the school over the years with folk groups, choirs, variety shows and musicals etc. and keeping in mind the vast variety of students attending the school from all over the world, we felt the time was right to bring the students together,“Le Chéile “ .Our aims are to:

* To train and develop the students as singers and as musicians.

* To showcase the songs and music representing all traditional and ethnic minorities on a regular basis.

* To explore and develop the similarities and differences within the different genres of music and fuse them together into one melting pot.

* To foster an appreciation among the students for each other throughout their playing and singing together. “Unity through Diversity “

Classes take place on a Friday. These include: Jembe drum, bodhran, tin whistle and guitar. Approximately forty five pupils are involved in this. Singing practice takes place on Wednesdays at 1 o clock, with thirty pupils participating.

Lé Chéile

We are delighted to say that Le Chéile got off to a great start.

Firstly we sang and played in the school at the Remembrance Mass with Bishop Eamon Walsh.

Next we played and sang for St. Margaret’s Display Day with Miss Spring and the parents and teachers.

The Group then welcomed Santa to the Citywest Shopping Centre and we played and sang Christmas carols and other songs for two hours. This was a great success. The pupils really enjoyed it and our projector and slide show containing pictures of the students in their classes caught the eyes of the listeners.

Next we set about our first concert. Here we showcased all the talent. There was a mixture of Irish dancing, African Jembe, African songs, Bodhran playing, Hip Hop dancing, Tin Whistle, Christmas songs and Solos in contemporary music. With great support from the management and especially our care takers and students who managed the stage and sound, the concert was a great experience for all concerned.

Just before Christmas the group travelled to Lucan Lodge House for the elderly. Here the students performed a wide variety of songs, tin whistle playing and dancing. The pupils enjoyed chatting to the residents. They were a credit to the school.

Lé Chéile

Le Chéile is making steady progress, Thanks to all who have supported us. The most striking development is that most of the library furntiure has been installed. The furniture is in beech wood and includes the shelving, an IT desk which will have four PCs, the librarian's desk, two spinners and the radiator covers. Of the ten new JCSP school libraries around the country, St. Aidan's is the first to get their furniture fitted!

Stock has already been purchased and more will be bought. The library in Tallaght also kindly donated some of their brand new books. Every item in the library needs to be catalogued so that everything is recorded on the computer system and can be kept track of. Every item will also need to be prepared with labels, a barcode and some will need to be covered. If anyone has suggestions for stock for the library please drop into Ms. Larkin and tell her your ideas.
